The Importance of Maintaining a Blogging Schedule

Thanks for visiting the site again. If you are looking for professional writing for your business, please contact me.
It is something you have likely heard many times before…keeping a schedule when you are blogging is important. Post only when you feel like it and expect your readers to show you the same kind of “respect” in return. If you are going to commit to a blog, make sure it is updated on a regular basis.
Now, how do we determine what regular is?
Here’s the kicker. It doesn’t really matter what regular is for your blog as long as you are consistent in posting. If I can look at your blog posts and see that you post twice a week or only on even numbered days or only on Tuesday and Thursday, it lets me know what to expect. I won’t get frustrated visiting your blog and seeing the same post I read last time I was there. Set expectations with a schedule.
But, what about content? What if I commit to posting three times a week and run out of things to say?
This seems to be a common excuse. Let’s break this down.
1. If you run out of things to say on your blog after only a few weeks, you chose the wrong topic. When you start a blog, it should be about a topic or niche that you are passionate about every day. It should be the topic that makes your friends roll your eyes when you start to talk about it with a “not this again” sigh. When you pick that kind of topic, you will never run out of things to say.
2. Every post you make does not have to be the length of a manuscript. Mix it up. Maybe you only need to post a few sentences to get your point across. That’s fine. In fact, if the post is incredibly long, consider breaking it apart and making it into a series of post like I did about email newsletters.
3. Blog ahead. Even if you don’t schedule the posts for your blog at pre-set times, blogging ahead can give you a backlog of content for those days when you really feel like you can’t come up with a single thing to say about your niche. On those days when you feel inspired, write more than one post and save it in draft form. When that writer’s block day hits, simply publish your post. Just make sure you don’t use content tied to a specific time or event when you write these posts.
Still feeling apprehensive about a schedule due to content concerns? In my next post, I will detail an exhaustive list of ways to develop ideas and content for your site. You are sure to never run out of things to talk about if you use this list.
Remember, you can always outsource your blogging to a professional writer who can handle it all for you as well.
